NIA MIMAROPA and IAs JOIN HANDS IN MAINTAINING THE OPERATION OF IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

To maintain a consistent irrigation water supply, NIA MIMAROPA regularly and actively conducting various maintenance activity in collaboration with the Irrigators' Associations (IAs) in the region.

Recently, a number of important maintenance activities have been accomplished. To prevent water loss and ensure adequate distribution to 600.52 hectares of farmland benefiting 316 farmers, the MOMARO IMO's Alcadesma Proper Tiguisan IA repaired a gap in the Cut-off Wall by sandbagging the canal-retaining wall. The NIA backhoe assisted with backfilling the repair. Furthermore, the White-Water IA and NIA ditch tenders collaborated to clear outlets, ensuring effective water distribution to 1,001.26 hectares of farmland serving 418 beneficiaries.

In Occidental Mindoro IMO, the Saligsig Libliban IA cleared debris from the Saligsig Libliban Intake, ensuring unhindered water flow to irrigate 215.89 hectares for 86 farmers. To improve farmer access and facilitate maintenance, the Barangay San Vicente Local Government Unit (BLGU) paved approximately 100 meters of the NIA Service Road South Main Canal, used by the Sanvic Francis Left and Right IA to continuously irrigate 550.17 hectares for 340 farmer beneficiaries.

Additionally, the Palawan IMO's Kanayon IA cleared canals along the Batang-Batang River Irrigation System (RIS), maintaining efficient water flow for 723.33 hectares serving 272 farmers.

These initiatives demonstrate how important local collaborations are to maintaining and improving vital community infrastructure.
