Calamundingan-Lucio Laurel Farmers Irrigators' Association, Inc.: A Model of Success

Quezon City - The Calamundingan-Lucio Laurel Farmers Irrigators' Association, Inc. of Oriental Mindoro was recently recognized as a National Finalist for Outstanding Irrigators Associations (IA) Performers under the Communal Irrigation System (CIS) category. This prestigious acknowledgement was presented during the National Irrigation Administration's "Daloy ng Tagumpay" 62nd Anniversary celebration at the NIA Central Office in Edsa Diliman, by Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Conrado Estrella III, NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen, and other distinguished officials.

From its modest beginnings, this association has blossomed into a distinguished and thriving organization, now comprising 217 members managing over 313.60 hectares of agricultural land. Spearheaded by its committed farmer-leaders and current President, Mr. Teodoro C. Abayon, their remarkable success is a testament to years of hard work, unity, and strong partnerships.

The association has consistently thrived through the steadfast support of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and enduring collaborations with key government agencies like the Department of Agriculture (DA), DAR, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), along with vital contributions from the Provincial Government, Municipal Government of Gloria, and the Barangay LGU of Lucio Laurel. These collaborations have been instrumental in transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation.

This achievement was significantly supported by the dedicated efforts of NIA MIMAROPA's leadership, including Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, Engineering and Operations Division Manager Engr. Lowell L. Lozano, Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon Irrigation Management Office (IMO) Division Manager Engr. Maria Victoria O. Malenab, and Operations, Institutional and Equipment Section Chief Engr. Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo. Crucial guidance was also provided by the Institutional Development Program implementers, led by Supervising Irrigators Development Officer (IDO) Engr. Ave Jane V. Alvarado, Senior IDO Engr. Ailyn E. Aquino, and Irrigators Development Officer Mary Ann Reyes.

Today, the association stands as a symbol of farmer empowerment, sustainable irrigation management, and community-driven agricultural development, serving as an inspiring model for Irrigators Associations not only in Oriental Mindoro but throughout the country.
