Palawan IMO Manager inspects project at Batang-Batang RIS in Narra

Narra, Palawan -  In an effort to strengthen food security and increase agricultural output in the municipality of Narra, Palawan IMO Division Manager Fidel P. Martinez inspected the package II irrigation project of the Batang-Batang River Irrigation System (RIS) on January 24, 2023, to ensure ongoing construction of this project meets safety and quality standards.

The Batang-Batang RIS package II, with a contract amount of 6 million, covers supply, installation of automatic rain gauge with fence, and construction of protection work in Batang-Batang Intake. This project is designed with modern technology envisioned to bring a much-needed boost to production levels of agriculture in Narra.

Division Manager Martinez emphasizes that National Irrigation System’s projects are essential to agricultural sustainability and/ or food security and highlight regular inspections of irrigation projects are important for ensuring the systems remain functional and the distribution of irrigation services is efficient and safe for both communities and the environment.

The said inspection was also accompanied by skilled engineers and staff from the operation’s unit responsible for assessing the project’s current state, identifying any potential issues, and determining whether additional work or repairs may be necessary.

The Package II of the Batang-Batang RIS is scheduled to benefit local farmers by the 1st quarter of 2023, marking another milestone in the system’s development.
