West Marangas IA grasps Long-Time Wish Fulfilled Through NIA CARP-IC funded Project in Bataraza Palawan

Palawan - Forty-four (44) farmers of the West Marangas Farmers Irrigator’s Association (IA) in Bataraza, Palawan are rejoicing for the nearest fulfillment of a long-time wish: irrigation for 94 hectares of land. After years of relying on rainfall and spring as the sole source of hydration for their crops, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)- Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program – Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) has stepped into the province of Palawan to construct Marangas II Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) in town.

The NIA CARP-IC headed by Project Manager Engr. Wilhelm S. Tiangco and Palawan Irrigation Management Office (PIMO) led by Division Manager Engr. Fidel P. Martinez have just conducted a successful test run of Marangas II CIP joined by Administrative and Finance, Division Manager, Maida B. Mendoza, Engineering Division Manager Alfred D. Amoloria, Administrative officer, Gemma D. Salazar, and MIMAROPA Regional Supervising Engr. Emerlito Alcala, as part of efforts to assess the project's efficiency, sustainability, and performance before it turns over to the West Marangas Farmers IA.

The test run results are promising, indicating that the project is an effective solution for local farmers to ensure their crops receive the necessary water supply to prosper.  With this new system in place, farmers of West Marangas Farmers IA can receive enough water for their crops even in extreme weather conditions, allowing them to irrigate their fields more efficiently and effectively.

The Marangas II CIP covers the construction of canal linings and canal structures, anticipated to be completed by the end of the first quarter for a contract amount of 13 million. Pres. Rodel Eustaquio of West Marangas Farmers IA has also expressed his appreciation to NIA Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen and MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes.

“Binabati ko po si Administrator Eddie G. Guillen at Regional Director Ronilio M. Cervantes, taos puso po kaming nagpapasalamat sa programa, sa project na ibinigay ninyo sa amin, matagal na po namin itong inaasam sir na maging productive ang aming lupa, sa ngayon po nakita namin totoo na ang aming inaasam. Maraming salamat po,” said Pres. Eustaquio.
