Palawan IMO begins the New Year inspecting Multi-Million Irrigation Project in Aborlan

Aborlan, Palawan -  To begin the new year at a great pace, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) - Palawan Irrigation Management Office (PIMO), Division Manager Engr. Fidel P. Martinez has begun his routine inspection of the ongoing construction of the 886 million Ibato-Iraan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) located in Aborlan on January 24, 2023, with a commitment of providing efficient irrigation services to the local farmers in town.

The Ibato-Iraan SRIP is a multi-year undertaking that is certain to provide sustainable irrigation to local farmers, indigenous peoples (IPs), and/ or communities in the Municipality. The project is currently under construction and has an overall physical accomplishment of 87.78% as of January 15, 2023.

Palawan IMO Division Manager Engr. Martinez believes that proper irrigation is key to improving crop yield and increasing harvest productivity. He emphasizes that Ibato-Iraan SRIP also stands as a beacon of hope for farmers who depend on their agricultural land for food security and economic stability.

The multi-million Ibato-Iraan SRIP is capable of providing irrigation services to 1,072 hectares of agricultural land. Once completed, it will be the largest reservoir of NIA PIMO in the province, contributing to the livelihood of 425 farmer-beneficiaries and improving their quality of life.

The construction of the Ibato-Iraan SRIP is being carried out by a team of experienced engineers from the Central Office, including resident Engr. Gil C. Padua, NIA MIMAROPA Region led by Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes and Palawan IMO headed by Division Manager Engr. Fidel P. Martinez.
