Occidental Mindoro Inaugurates Seven (7) Solar-Powered Irrigation System Funded under CARP-IC

In its continuous pursuit of providing sustainable and climate-resilient irrigation systems, the National Irrigation Administration Occidental Mindoro IMO inaugurated yesterday, March 14, 2024, the Solar-Powered Irrigation System funded under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) in Occidental Mindoro - the PATASS Solar Pump Irrigation Project.

NIA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, together with OMIMO Division Manager Engr. Raymundo L. Calusin, Department of Agrarian Reform MIMAROPA Regional Director Atty. Marvin V. Bernal, and Occidental Mindoro Congressman Hon. Leody F. Tarriela, spearheaded the inaugural ceremony and formal turnover of the operation and maintenance responsibilities of the project to the Paetan-Tagumpay Sablayan Irrigators Association, Inc., represented by President Jimmy C. Maycong.

The project, which cost Php 15 Million allocated for seven (7) units of solar pumps with the necessary accessories for the irrigation system, will irrigate 38.90 hectares of agricultural land across the neighboring barangays of Paetan and Tagumpay in Sablayan, benefiting 28 farmer-beneficiaries within the PATASS Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) area. Overall, the execution of this project signifies a proactive approach towards climate resilience and sustainable development that has been pursued by NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen.

The timely implementation of this project is very much appreciated by the Local Government Unit of Sablayan, especially amidst the recurring impacts of El Niño in the municipality. Congressman Leody F. Tarriela commended the collaborative efforts of NIA and DAR in successfully launching this initiative.

Regional Manager Cervantes encouraged the IA to maintain the project diligently to extend its lifespan. He also shared the Rice Contract Farming initiative being pursued by the administration, as he quoted, “Ngayong meron nang sapat na tubig para sa pagsasaka, maari na tayong mag-3rd crop at sumali sa programang ito upang maisulong ang layunin na maging rice self-sufficient ang bansa.”

Also present at the event were Occidental Mindoro Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) Engr. Isagani Placido, Oriental Mindoro PARPO Engr. Rogelio Madarcos, PARCCOM Chairman Marcelino Pulayan along with its members, representatives from LGU-Sablayan, and the respective Barangay Captains Victor B.
