NIA MOMARO IMO Converges with Calapan City Mayor for Heavy Equipment

Oriental Mindoro - Recently, Typhoon Egay and Typhoon Falcon have caused devastating effects, leaving behind heavy siltation and sediments in the Baco-Bucayao River Irrigation System dam in Brgy. Mulawin, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. This affects the water delivery of approximately 4,142 hectares of farmland in Naujan and Calapan City and could result in an estimated loss of 29 million in costs of standing crops.

To restore the dam’s operation, under the guidance of NIA MIMAROPA Acting Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes,  the NIA Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO) headed by Division Manager Gerardo R. Perez- the OIC of BBRIS and Mag-asawang Tubig RIS Principal Engineer Maria Victoria O. Malenab along with operations personnel Senior Engineer Khen M. Rivera coordinated with Calapan City Mayor Hon. Marilou Flores-Morillo and Calapan City Engineer Benjamin Acedera to seek assistance in providing additional heavy equipment essential in dam desilting activities.

During the meeting, City Mayor Morillo immediately grant their request and delighted to assist the agency of NIA as a public servant of Calapan City. Also, BBRIS FIA President Anacleto Guerra and BBRIS FIA Secretary Jonathan Bautista were present during the coordination meeting.
