NIA MOMARO IMO Conducts Geo-Resistivity Training for Groundwater Exploration

Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - The NIA MIMAROPA Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO), under the guidance of Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes and under the supervision of Acting Division Manager Engr. Maria Victoria O. Malenab, conducted a week-long geo-resistivity training at the NIA Training Center in Bayanan II.

The primary objective of this training was to thoroughly equip the MOMARO IMO technical personnel with essential knowledge of groundwater exploration, which is crucial for understanding the soil’s structure, composition, and water content. This information can be instrumental in identifying and describing subsurface features such as the presence and types of aquifers and sediment size distribution.

During the training, a comprehensive survey was conducted at Brgy. Baruyan, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. Advanced software was also used for in-depth analysis and evaluation of the gathered data, enabling the determination of varying resistivity values across the subsurface and confirming the presence of groundwater in the area.

This initiative also aligns with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA), which emphasized the importance of utilizing advanced technologies, such as solar pumps, which are powered by renewable solar energy, offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional water extraction methods for efficiently locating and accessing water sources. By combining this expertise with solar pump technology, the MOMARO IMO can ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for irrigation and other uses. This approach not only supports the agricultural sector but also contributes to the overall socio-economic development of the region.

The successful completion of the training is a significant step in enhancing NIA MOMARO IMO's capacity to locate and utilize groundwater resources, leading to more efficient irrigation management.
