Manila - In a concerted effort to promote collaboration and explore avenues for synergy, NIA MIMAROPA Acting Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes conducted a courtesy call to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The primary objective of the visit was to discuss the possible convergence projects aimed at fostering sustainable development in the region. The courtesy call was held on July 3, 2023 at the respective Regional Offices of DSWD and DENR in Manila.
During the meeting with the Regional Director of DSWD Leonardo C. Reynoso, he informed Engr. Cervantes that they have offices in the five provinces of MIMAROPA where NIA staff can visit to discuss joint proposal for cash for work in desilting the canals of NIA, canal clearing, tree planting and other related activities. Said cash for work program will benefit the qualified members of the Irrigators Association as program recipients are provided with cash to meet their requirement for food and other basic necessities.
In a separate meeting, DENR representative informed Engr. Cervantes the potential integration of NIA’s irrigation systems with DENR’s environmental programs wherein NIA can request seedlings from CENRO for denuded watersheds.
Acting Regional Manager Cervantes expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of collaboration between NIA, DSWD, and DENR.
The convergence projects between NIA, DSWD, and DENR hold great promise for the holistic development of MIMAROPA. By aligning their efforts and resources, the agencies aim to improve agricultural productivity, enhance social welfare programs, and protect the region's natural resources. The collaboration is expected to yield positive outcomes and contribute to the sustainable growth and well-being of MIMAROPA's communities.
