NIA MIMAROPA Occidental Mindoro Irrigators' Associations Reap Success with Kadiwa Program, Achieving P230,000 in Total Sales

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) - MIMAROPA Acting Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes and Occidental Mindoro Irrigation Management Office (OMIMO) - Division Manager Raymundo L. Calusin led the successful launch of KADIWA ng Pangulo program at the NIA Compound in San Jose today, October 17, 2023. This is in collaboration of OMIMO Institutional Development Unit headed by Edwin V. Arevalo with the National Irrigation System (NIS) – Communal Irrigation System (CIS) Provincial Federation of Irrigators' Association (IA).

This noble endeavor aims to provide individuals with access to affordable and quality food products while supporting local farmers and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) involved in food production and distribution.

The participating IAs including Malawaan 4th Intake, Matabiaga Malawaan, Limlim, G1 Farmer San Nicolas Sablayan, Upit-Upper Ibud-Toog (UPPIT), Kalumpit Malapaga, Alipid-Ibud, Monteclaro, Batasan, San Jose Occidental Mindoro, Pinagturilan, Baribuan, Balansay, Alatin, Maligaya, Nicolas Magsaysay, Baluguhan and, San Vic Francis Left and Right showcased an array of products such as various varieties of rice, fruits, and vegetables.

The activity's highlight was the sale of rice for P35.00 per kilogram, which benefitted 630 consumers with a sale of 100 cavans (5,000 kg). Furthermore, the event generated a total sale of P230,000.00.

Present also during the event were Engineering and Operations Division Manager Lowell L. Lozano, President of Provincial Federation of IAs (NIA Category) Maria Luisa G. Jimena, Mindoro Island Convergence Initiative Officer Emelito V. Urriquia, and NIA-OMIMO officials and employees.

NIA Occidental Mindoro IMO in partnership with NIS-CIS FIA will soon conduct another Kadiwa event offering rice at just P35.00 per kilogram, which is below the price ceiling of P41.00 for regular milled rice and P45.00 for well-milled rice. This initiative aims to provide affordable agricultural products to the community while helping farmers earn and increase their income.
