NIA MIMAROPA NOMINATES 8,120 FARMERS FROM 128 IAS OF PALAWAN FOR TUPAD PROGRAM

Palawan - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) MIMAROPA, under the management of Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes and Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO) Division Manager Armando L. Flores, has submitted a list of 128 Irrigators Associations (IAs), totaling 8,120 farmers in the province of Palawan, to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

This submission aims to secure these farmers as potential recipients of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program which offers emergency employment opportunities for displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers to promote community resilience and prosperity. Farmers who are possibly experiencing difficulties in their planting activities are eligible for assistance through this initiative.

Under the ongoing negotiations between NIA and DOLE, accredited farmer beneficiaries will engage in community service such as canal cleaning as a way to contribute to the community and, in return, receive financial assistance through this program. This will also help farmers to have a livelihood burdened by climate-related issues.

The submission of 8,120 potential beneficiaries reflects a coordinated effort between NIA and DOLE which highlights a strategic alignment on convergence programs led by NIA Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen to provide assistance and support those vulnerable farmers in agriculture.
