Palawan - To take immediate steps for the repair and strengthening of the irrigation system, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) – MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes held a coordination meeting with Superintendent Gary A. Garcia RC, MSCA of the Bureau of Corrections (BUCOR) Palawan at Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City on March 16, 2023, to discuss the proposed repair of the Inagawan Communal Irrigation System (CIS).
The dam is located under the property jurisdiction of BUCOR at Inagawan Sub-Colony and is in need of repair due to deterioration caused by age and weather conditions.
The NIA and the BUCOR are still negotiating the terms and conditions of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) regarding the easement of right of way to ensure that both parties agree on a mutually beneficial agreement that will aid the repair of the system.
Regional Manager Engr. Cervantes also conducted a site inspection along with NIA-MIMAROPA Engineering and Operation Division Manager Engr. Lowell L. Lozano, Sr. Industrial Relation Management Officer (IRMO), Susan Lozano, Palawan Irrigation Management Office (PIMO), Division Manager Engr. Fidel P Martinez, Sr. Engineer A, Mary Grace B. Cartagena, and Institutional Development Unit (IDU), Sr. Irrigators Development Officer (IDO) Glenda Buenavista.
The Inagawan CIS remains operational, benefiting 171 farmers-beneficiaries of the Irrigator’s Service Association of Inagawan-Kamuning, Inc., and providing irrigation to 240 hectares of land.
