Quezon CIty - NIA MIMAROPA Acting Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes and Operations Supervising Engineer Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo attend the Cluster-Wide Meeting on Rice Industry Development (Luzon B Cluster) at the Department of Agriculture Central Office, Elliptical Road, Quezon City on March 31, 2023.
The conduct of the event is to discuss the situation, issues, and strategies in the complete rice value chain to realize the goal of increasing farm productivity and farmer’s income.
Undersecretary for Rice Industry Development Leocadio S. Sebastian, Ph.D, CESO I presents and discusses the four key strategies under the Masagana Rice Program 2023-2028 which are: increase production by optimizing yield, reducing risk, and increasing resilience through measures adapting to climate change; development of economies of scale towards efficient farm operations and agribusiness through farm clustering and consolidation; fast track the digital and information technology transformation of agriculture; and shift the program towards a holistic triple-A approach: agricultural production, agribusiness, and agro-industrialization.
He also shared the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. “Para sa pang-matagalang solusyon: itataas natin ang produksyon ng mga kalakal at produksyong pang-agrikultura. At para magawa ito, pagtitibayin natin ang tinatawag na value chain na nagsisimula sa mga magsasaka hanggang sa mga mamimili,” Pres. Marcos, Jr. said during his inauguration at the National Museum of the Philippines on June 30, 2022.
Moreover, during the activity, the need to focus on the Markets, Innovations, Scale, Mainstreaming and Outcome were emphasized in order to transform the Philippine agriculture.
Present during the event were NIA Regional Managers and Operations Section Chief, Regional Directors/ representatives and Provincial Heads of various government lined agencies of CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and V.
