NIA MIMAROPA and PCIC Partner to Offer Crop Insurance to Palawan Farmers

Palawan - To strengthen support and resilience among farmers in Palawan, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) MIMAROPA Region, under the management of Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, and Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO), headed by Engr. Armando L. Flores initiated the collaboration with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) - Provincial Extension Office to explore the possibilities of establishing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that aims to facilitate the enrollment process of crop insurance applications for 9,881 members from 138 Irrigators Associations (IAs) in the province, allowing these farmers to easily acquire insurance coverage and benefits, starting wet season of 2024.

This initiative was undertaken by the Institutional Development Unit (IDU) as part of the Agency’s convergence program that seeks to safeguard farmers' crops against potential risks such as pest infestations, droughts, calamities, and unforeseen circumstances that could threaten farmer's livelihoods.

Beyond providing irrigation services, the NIA MIMAROPA remains committed to organizing and strengthening IAs while supporting them in accessing programs offered by lined agencies.
