Occidental Mindoro - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Occidental Mindoro Irrigation Management Office (IMO) has engaged the services of Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines (EDCOP) to undertake the Feasibility Study of the proposed Lipitan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP).
The study encompasses various activities, including Subsurface Geological Investigation, Topographic Surveying and Mapping, and Environmental Assessment. These efforts, which are expected to span 2-3 months, aim to assess the viability of the project site and evaluate the condition of the subsurface foundation.
Therefore, NIA, headed by Acting Division Manager Maria Victoria O. Malenab, conducted a coordination meeting with the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) and, tribe leaders and elders of Habanan-Ibud, held at Monte Claro Barangay Hall, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro last July 7, 2023. This is to seek their permission to proceed with EDCOP’s study in their area, located in Sitio Ibanig. Fortunately, the IPs granted their request, allowing the project to move forward. Additionally, the NCIP and Habanan Ibud Tribe planned to organize a separate gathering with the other members of the community on July 14-15, 2023, to convey what was discussed during the meeting and also to select 20 IPs who will work closely with EDCOP throughout the research process.
Present also during the meeting were Rizal and San Jose Local Government Unit (LGU), together with San Jose Barangay Officials of Manoot and Monte Carlo.
With the necessary permissions granted and further meetings planned, the research promised to provide valuable insights into the project's feasibility and ensure its success.
