Occidental Mindoro - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Occidental Mindoro IMO and the Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed seeds to support the farmers of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. The joint initiative aims to uplift the agricultural sector by helping farmers improve their yields and attain continuous production throughout the year.
The activity took place at NIA Amnay Mongpong RIS, Brgy. San Vicente, Sablayan last May 26, 2023. The recipients are farmers from Saligsig Libliban FIA and Kalumpit Malapaga Ibud IA that are listed under the Farmer’s Intervention Monitoring System (FIMS).
FIMS is an accurate database created by the DA to assess farmers who need assistance and support to improve their farming activities.
Before the distribution started, one of the distributors of the hybrid seeds, Mr. Moises Viguilla, briefly outlined the Masagana 200 program which focuses on utilizing clustering strategies to enhance productivity.
Overall, the program has been well-received by a total of 112 farmers of the said municipality who expressed their appreciation for the government’s support and effort in providing them with resources and making sure their livelihoods are protected.
