Palawan - As the effects of climate change become more apparent, farmers in Narra, Palawan also struggle to cope with changing weather patterns, in response, the Malatgao Batang-Batang River Irrigation System’s (MBBRIS) office implemented an early cropping schedule ahead of the normal planting season for the Irrigators Associations (IAs) of Malatgao River Irrigation System (RIS).
This proactive measure ensures that farmers of Malatgao North, under the supervision of Senior Water Resources Facilities Technician (SWRFT) Arnaldo Magbanua, can continue agricultural farming operations despite drought or any weather-related events.
An early cropping schedule was one of the strategies of Palawan IMO in response to a severe lack of rainfall that occurred for the past weeks. The IA federation unanimously approved planting crops as early as April instead of May to secure harvests and livelihoods for Wet Season 2023.
Palawan IMO Division Manager Armando L. Flores assured stakeholders that the agency remains committed to providing irrigation services and to continue engaging in best practices of water management in the province.
