Inauguration of Pula RIS Dam Marks Major Advancement in Agricultural Development

Oriental Mindoro - On July 4, 2024, the NIA Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO) held the inauguration of the Pula River Irrigation System (RIS) Dam, marking a significant milestone in agricultural development. The project, improvement of Pula RIS including automation of sluice gates, is valued at Php 50 million and aims to benefit a service area of 3,463.73 hectares, supporting 2,393 farmers.

The inauguration was led by NIA MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, along with key officials including Engineering and Operations Division Manager Engr. Lowell L. Lozano, Administrative and Finance Division Manager Kirsty Caroline M. Hernandez-Aceron, and MOMARO IMO Acting Division Manager Engr. Maria Victoria O. Malenab. The event was also graced by Municipal Mayor Hon. Aristeo A. Baldos, Jr. and 2nd District Representative Hon. Alfonso V. Umali, Jr.

Engr. Cervantes reminded farmers to take care of all the projects provided by the NIA. He also encouraged them to utilize the areas alongside canals for planting a variety of crops, including eggplant, string beans, tomatoes, corn, papaya, and more. These crops can then be displayed and sold at Kadiwa, providing farmers with additional income opportunities and contributing to local food security.

The completion of the Pula RIS Dam marks a transformative step forward for the agricultural sector in the region. With its ability to provide reliable irrigation, the project is expected to significantly enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability, ultimately improving the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and contributing to the overall economic development of the area.
