Oriental Mindoro - With the theme of “Ugnayan ang Unang Hakbang Tungo sa Masaganang Sakahan at Pangisdaan”, the 3rd Rural-Based Organizations’ Congress was successfully conducted last October 24, 2023, at the Plenary Hall, Bahay Tuklasan, Santiago, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
The event was organized by the Local Government Unit of Naujan, in partnership with the Mindoro Outstanding Ventures (MOVE) and the Mindoro Business Council. It aims to address the pressing issues and challenges faced by the farmers and fisherfolks and encourage the development of solutions through collaboration and long-term relationship-building.
The activity was participated by over 150 farmers, fishermen, and representatives from various government agencies, to share valuable and useful insights about agriculture, fisheries, food sufficiency, and the ecosystem that enables its thriving growth as well as the challenges that hamper local agriculture and fisheries sustainability.
During the forum, Acting Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes who served as one of the speakers provided an overview of the Irrigation Development status and various projects for the year 2023. He also presented the proposed projects for the year 2024, along with the Convergence Projects and other Institutional Development Programs of NIA, such as "Kadiwa sa NIA" held every Thursday, clustering of Irrigators Association, and the establishment and development of Irrigators Service Cooperative in collaboration with the Irrigators Association and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).
Supervising Irrigators’ Development Officer Alona L. Soco and Senior Engineer A John Rey H. Oprido were also present during the activity.
