Building Stronger Rice Production: NIA MIMAROPA, DA, and PhilRice Collaborate on Farm Clustering Strategies

Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - The NIA MIMAROPA Regional Office, DA Regional Office, and PhilRice convened on March 8, 2024, at the NIA MIMARPA Regional Office in Bayanan II, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, to discuss the COnvergence to RCEF Programs and NIA under Farm Clustering Intensification. 

Mr. Ronald A. De Gala, the DA RFO Rice Program Focal Person and RSBSA Focal Person, along with DA Rice Program Report Officer Engr. Shiena Clarise A. Agillon and PhilRice Provincial Coordinator-RCEF Seed Program Engr. Rovick D. Manay, engaged in discussions with Operations Unit Head Engr. Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo and IDU Head Engr. Ave Jane V. Alvarado. The focus of the discussion was on cluster strategies, which include the vertical expansion of established level-up clusters and the intensification of convergence with NIA in establishing and managing rice farm clusters.

Prior to this meeting, the NIA MIMAROPA Regional Office submitted the regionwide list of IA Clusters to DA RFO, in accordance with the Joint Memorandum on Convergence Initiatives for Clustering of Irrigators' Associations by DA and NIA. Clustering aims to organize farmers and farmer groups, including IAs, into clusters, which will serve as the basic unit of the Masagana Rice Program for the delivery of interventions.

Mr. Emerson S. Yago, Director of Rice Clustering and Consolidation under the Masagana Rice Industry Development Program, also participated in the coordination meeting through a virtual platform, alongside the IDP implementers regionwide.
