ACTING REGIONAL IRRIGATION MANAGER OF NATIONAL IRRIGATION ADMINISTRATION AND PHILIPPINE COCONUT AUTHORITY REGIONAL DIRECTOR DISCUSS POTENTIAL COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

Romblon - In a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture and boosting livelihoods, the Acting Regional Irrigation Manager of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) MIMAROPA recently met with the Regional Manager of Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Region IV to explore potential areas of collaboration and convergence. During the productive meeting, one of the key proposals put forth by the NIA was to request coconut seedlings from the PCA to be planted by the Irrigators Association, fostering a joint effort to expand coconut cultivation in the MIMAROPA region.

The meeting was held today, July 5, 2023 at Odiongan, Romblon. The Acting Regional Irrigation Manager of NIA, Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, and the PCA Regional Director Bibiano C. Concibido, Jr., expressed their commitment to working together to develop comprehensive strategies that would contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector.

Under the proposal, the NIA would request coconut seedlings from the PCA to distribute among the Irrigators Association. The seedlings would be planted in suitable areas near irrigation canals and reservoirs, utilizing the NIA's irrigation systems to ensure consistent water supply during the critical growth phase of the coconut trees. Moreover, the project aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of the Irrigators Association and create additional opportunities for economic growth and diversification.

As the NIA and PCA embark on this collaborative journey, the coconut planting initiative holds the promise of bolstering coconut cultivation, empowering farmers, and contributing to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
