Palawan IMO Organizes NIA-IA Interagency Forum to create Contingency Plan for EL Niño

Palawan - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) - Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO), headed by Division Manager Armando L. Flores, organized NIA-IA Inter-agency Forum in Puerto Princesa City for Irrigators Associations (IAs) of National Irrigation System (NIS) and Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in the province.

The objective was to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information between stakeholders and various government agencies in context of developing comprehensive action plan to mitigate the effects of El Nino Phenomenon.

Through this forum, Institutional Development Unit (IDU) shared updates and information related to Institutional Development Program (IDP), discussed formulation of IA cooperatives, and strengthened the organization of the Palawan CIS Federation of IA.

The event was supported by Engr. Shirley Bahia of MIMAROPA Regional Office, officials from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Puerto Princesa Station, the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), and Landbank of the Philippines (LBP).

Representatives from each of these agencies also presented updates on their respective programs and services that aimed to improve farmers’ quality of life.
