Occidental Mindoro - Fifteen farmers from two Irrigators Associations participated in a field demonstration of the Precision Direct Seeder held in Barangay Balansay, Mamburao on July 1, 2025. The participants represented the Balansay Mimping Irrigators Association, Inc. (Mamburao) and the Baluguhan-Bungahan Irrigators Association, Inc. (Abra de Ilog). Also in attendance was Ronnie G. Rapilo, Irrigators Development Officer (IDO) from the Occidental Mindoro Irrigation Management Office (OMIMO).
This activity is part of a continuing effort led by Occidental Mindoro Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano to promote agricultural mechanization across the province. The program is spearheaded by the Provincial Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) Division, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech). The initiative also receives support from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) – MIMAROPA, led by Regional Irrigation Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, in coordination with the Occidental Mindoro Irrigation Management Office, under the supervision of Division Manager Engr. Raymundo L. Calusin.
During the demonstration, Engr. Rodolf Asejo, Chief of the Provincial ABE Division, emphasized the importance of proper land preparation, seed treatment, and correct machine handling to ensure optimal results in the field.
A highlight of the event was the hands-on training facilitated by the supplier’s technical team. Selected farmer-operators from the participating Farmers’ Cooperative Associations (FCAs) were taught how to operate the direct seeder, ensuring they gained the technical skills necessary for effective on-field use.
Farmer-participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable knowledge and practical training they received.
