Occidental Mindoro - March 2, 2023, Occidental Mindoro IMO conducts coordination meeting spearheaded by Acting Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes at NIA Training Center, San Roque, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. Together with Technical and Operations staff headed by Acting Division Manager Maria Victoria O. Malenab, update on the status of carry over and current projects as per commitment set by the IMO were discussed. Institutional development implementers were also encouraged to strengthen irrigators associations per municipality and organize them into cooperative which perceive to be more sustainable in terms of generating income for the association’s growth.
After staff coordination, Acting Regional Manager Cervantes visited the on-going Lumintao RIS rehabilitation works with a total project cost of P20-million at Brgy. Magsikap, Rizal and gave instructions to fast track its implementation. He also visited the completed Caguray RIS Solar Pump Irrigation Project as augmentation on the non-operational area of Barangays Sibalat and Calawag, Magsaysay. This project with 2 units of solar submersible pump, is now operational and supports the water requirements of diversified crops particular onion production in an area of 14 hectares serving 8 farmer beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries were very grateful to NIA in providing this kind of irrigation projects which really help them to lessen production costs like fuel expenses that is burdensome to average income farmer like them. Hearing this, Engr. Cervantes assures that NIA will fulfill its commitment of pursuing agricultural productivity and increase farmers income, as he quoted “lesser na ang production expenses n'yo, double pa ang kita dahil sa mahal ng produkto na inyong pino-produce (Onion), kaya siguradong uunlad na ang inyong buhay kaya dapat ingatan n'yo ang proyektong ito.”
