Odiongan, Romblon - With the support of NIA MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, the NIA Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO), under the supervision of Acting Division Manager Engr. Maria Victoria O. Malenab, participated in the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk (PAFF) Program held at Romblon State University, on July 18, 2024. The event, attended by Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., marked a significant milestone in regional agricultural development. Key highlights included the turnover of Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS), groundbreaking of Solar Pump Irrigation Projects (SPIP), and awarding of Operations and Maintenance subsidies.
The turnover of the Danao Sur CIS, Gabawan II Extension CIS, and Dubduban CIS projects, with a combined value of P16 million, is expected to improve irrigation services for a total of 92.5 hectares. These systems will benefit 174 local farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity and contributing to the region's food security.
Additionally, groundbreaking ceremonies for the Taboboan-Tulay CIS and Bating SPIP were held, introducing more efficient and sustainable irrigation solutions to further support local farmers and reduce reliance on traditional irrigation methods.
The event also featured the awarding of an Operations and Maintenance Subsidy totaling Php 1,039,610.00 to the Tablas Island Federation of Irrigators, Inc. and the Sibuyan Galapagous Federation Irrigators. This financial support will aid in the maintenance and operation of a service area covering 2,079.22 hectares, benefiting 2,740 farmers.
This initiative underscores NIA's commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and supporting farmers' livelihoods in the region. It also highlights NIA MOMARO's dedication to improving irrigation services and advancing agricultural development across the province.
