NIA MIMAROPA PERSONNEL AND IRRIGATORS’ ASSOCIATION CONCLUDES TRAINING ON SOIL MANAGEMENT, FERTILIZATION AND PEST CONTROL

Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - The NIA MIMAROPA operations and institutional development personnel, together with the Oriental Mindoro Irrigators Associations (IAs), concluded the two-day training on Soil Management, Fertilization and Pest Control held on April 15-16, 2025.

Resource speakers from the DA MIMAROPA Soils Laboratory Mr. Eric M. Elmido and Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) Mr. Henry L. Acosta and Mr. Zachary Owen B. Abutan shared various strategies on how to manage soil, tips on the application of fertilizers and how to properly control pests.

Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes expressed his gratitude to the resource speakers and emphasized that he was looking forward to the sharing of new learnings to the employees and IAs.

Besides the lectures, the participants went to a parcel of land of Baco-Bucayao River Irrigation System to conduct actual soil sampling.

Engr. Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo, Operations, Institutional and Equipment Section chief said that "Nagawa na natin sa NIA ang part natin na magpatubig, pero hindi sapat na patubig lang. We need to go beyond irrigation, at ma-implement ang soil management and fertilization at pest control para mas mapataas pa ang ani ng ating magsasaka."

Training for the Occidental Mindoro and Palawan will be scheduled next.
