Palawan - National Irrigation Administration (NIA) MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes and Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO) headed by Division Manager Engr. Armando L. Flores are continuously distributing 12,659 agricultural inputs consisting of fertilizers for rice production of 10 Irrigators Associations (IAs) of the National Irrigation System (NIS) and 38 IAs of the Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in the province of Palawan that participated in the rice contract farming schemes.
Participating farmers under this contract are allocated P50,000 per hectare through essential farm inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and monetary assistance during the production phase. Upon successful harvest, the Agency will compensate farmers with cash payments proportional to their palay output with up to P50,000 per hectare based on a target yield. Moreover, farmers who surpass the target yield can sell excess rice independently for extra income.
As of June 30, 2024, Palawan IMO has already distributed 686 inputs for NIS-associated IAs and 1,617 inputs for CIS IAs, with only 31 IAs left to receive fertilizer inputs. Furthermore, there are 1,592.35 hectares of land registered for contract farming schemes in the province.
This strategic approach of NIA Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen under President Ferdinand Bongbong Romualdez Marcos' program is designed to boost rice production by empowering farmers to manage all stages of production from land preparation to harvesting to ensure optimal results and equipping them with necessary resources and guidance to build a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector that contributes to food security and economic stability.
