NIA MIMAROPA Continued IA Engagements in Occidental Mindoro IMO

Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro - Following the series of visits and dialogues for the Most Outstanding Irrigators Associations (IAs) for Calendar Year 2024 in Oriental Mindoro, NIA MIMAROPA continued its conduct with IAs in Occidental Mindoro - Malawaan Fourth Intake Farmer’s Irrigators Association headed by IA President Maximo T. Laredo in Rizal and Amnay – Cabagan Irrigators Association headed by IA President Ramon M. Espiritu this May 14.

The activity was facilitated by Regional Office representatives, including Principal Engineer Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo (Operations, Institutional, and Equipment Section Head), Supervising Irrigators Development Officer (IDO) Engr. Ave Jane V. Alvarado (Institutional Development Unit Head), and IDO A Elan Vital D. Buhay.

Participants from the Occidental Mindoro Irrigation Management Office (IMO) included Supervising IDO Kristina B. Troncoso, IDO A Raffy T. Prado, IDO A Eugene M. Prado, and Water Resource Facilities Operator B Luis Fernandez. Also present were four (4) members of the Malawaan Fourth Intake FIA and five (5) members of the Amnay – Cabagan IA.

Established in 2020, the Amnay–Cabagan IA manages the operation and maintenance of the Cabagan CIS, which covers a service area of 300 hectares. This year marks the association’s first nomination for the Most Outstanding IA at the national level.

Meanwhile, the Malawaan Fourth Intake FIA, established in 2015 under the Lumintao River Irrigation System (RIS), serves 105.52 hectares. It recently received recognition as the “Performing IA of the Year 2024” for its efficient irrigation management, active participation in NIA programs, and exemplary service to its farmer-members in full compliance with the Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) contract, and was honored during the NIA IA Congress held in December 2024.
