NIA deploys new backhoe to Occidental Mindoro

Magsaysay Occidental Mindoro - Part of the tranche of NIA 3-year Refleeting Program from CY 2023-2025. This is to ensure effective and timely irrigation services.

Maintaining National Irrigation Systems is important for agricultural productivity, and having the right maintenance equipment is essential. To meet this need, the backhoe has been assigned to the Caguray River Irrigation System (RIS) in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro to maintain almost 30 kilometers of main and lateral canals, including the Ogee dam. The said irrigation system currently serves around 4,382 hectares of agricultural land, benefiting 1,077 farmers.

Six (6) Irrigators Association express strong support for the operation of the equipment by contributing fuel assistance derived from the subsidies they receive under the Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) contract. This highlights their dedication to system upkeep. The backhoe is already working on the main canal of Caguray RIS and will continue according to the established maintenance plan.

Through these strategic interventions, the Occidental Mindoro IMO continues to support the agricultural community, contributing to food security and economic stability in the province.
