Dumaran, Palawan - To counter the potential challenges of El Niño on farming, the Ilian I Farmers Irrigators Association (FIA), Inc. conducted a tree planting initiative last June 2024. This endeavor was accomplished through the joint efforts of 14 members, with the support of NIA MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes and Palawan Irrigation Management Office Division Manager Engr. Armando L. Flores.
A total of 40 trees including Ipil, Narra, Suha, Mango, Langka, and Coconut saplings were planted over 1.5 hectares near the upstream area of the Ilian I Communal Irrigation System (CIS).
This initiative highlights the dedication to enhancing resilience against environmental challenges and safeguarding the irrigation infrastructure to secure sustainable agriculture and food security for present and future generations.
