In a significant step to promote the NIA’s Double Dry Cropping Scheme, NIA MIMAROPA, headed by Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, and the Department of Agriculture - Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) have joined forces to distribute 41 bags of high-quality palay seeds (RC160 Variety) to farmers in the municipalities of Mogpog and Santa Cruz on March 27, 2025.
The Double Dry Cropping Scheme is a key component of NIA’s efforts to intensify rice production in irrigated areas. By enabling farmers to plant twice during the dry season, the program helps mitigate the effects of climate variability while ensuring a steady rice supply. This initiative will benefit a total of 34.35 hectares of farmland and directly support 18 farmer beneficiaries.
With the success of this initiative, NIA MIMAROPA and DA-PhilRice plan to expand the program to more areas in Marinduque, reaching more farmers. Local governments and agricultural offices support the project, seeing it as a way to improve food security, farmers' livelihoods, and the local economy.
