NIA Occidental Mindoro Supports Cooperative Formation for Farmers

Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro - Recognizing the vital role of Irrigators' Associations (IAs) in strengthening irrigation systems and boosting agricultural productivity, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Occidental Mindoro joined the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Occidental Mindoro in conducting a two-day Orientation and Pre-Registration Seminar (PRS) to support the formation of Irrigation Service Cooperatives (ISCs).

Held at Magsaysay Hillside Resort, Poblacion, the seminar brought together various farmers' groups, including 18 IAs from the municipalities of Sablayan, Calintaan, and Rizal, all of whom expressed their willingness to organize and register cooperatives within their respective municipalities.

The orientation provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the registration process, legal requirements, and the operational benefits of being a registered cooperative. CDA representatives also extended on-site assistance to interested IAs to help them navigate the initial stages of registration.

This initiative reflected NIA’s commitment to building resilient and economically empowered farmer organizations. These envisioned cooperatives will serve as marketing arms, facilitating better price negotiations, more efficient input distribution, and engagement in value-added agricultural activities.
