NIA MOMARO IMO CONDUCTS WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT ON MAG-ASAWANG TUBIG RIS AND KARAYRAYAN RIVER

In accordance with the guidelines outlined in DENR Administrative Order No. 2016-08 (Water Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016), the NIA Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO), under the leadership of Division Manager Engr. Maria Victoria O. Malenab and with the support of the NIA MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes, recently conducted a thorough water quality assessment of the Mag-Asawang Tubig River Irrigation System (MTRIS) and the Karayrayan River.

The assessment aimed to evaluate the physicochemical and bacteriological properties of the water to ensure compliance with designated beneficial uses and classifications, as defined by regulatory standards. The study focused on nine (9) sampling stations along the Mag-Asawang Tubig River Irrigation System, encompassing the dam axis, and upstream and downstream areas within the municipalities of Victoria and Naujan.

Furthermore, four (4) sampling stations were established along the Karayrayan River to assess water quality at the upstream, midstream, downstream, and service areas of the river. This comprehensive evaluation is critical for maintaining the integrity of the irrigation systems and ensuring the quality of water resources in the region.
