NIA MOMARO IMO Conducts Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) Training Workshop

Victoria, Oriental Mindoro - To support sustainable irrigation practices and empower local farmers with knowledge of water-saving techniques, the National Irrigation Administration Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO) organized a two-day training workshop on Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) from June 16 to 17, 2025.

Fifty participants from the Bagong Buhay Victoria Irrigators Association, Inc. and Fermier Irrigators’ Association, Inc. actively took part in the workshop, showing enthusiasm to adopt climate-smart agriculture methods that help conserve water without compromising yield.

The IDP Implementers served as the resource speakers, provided an in-depth discussion on the principles, benefits, and field application of AWD. This method, which involves the controlled wetting and drying of rice fields, makes it cost-effective and environment-friendly.

Participants engaged in interactive discussions and field demonstrations that gave them hands-on experience and a clearer understanding of how AWD works in actual farming. This reflects NIA MOMARO IMO’s ongoing commitment to improve water management practices and promote innovations in the face of climate change and limited water resources.
