Adhering with the 4-point agenda of NIA Administrator to institute measures to improve delivery of services and modernize equipment for operations and project implementation, NIA MIMAROPA headed by Regional Manager William P. Ragodon, pursues completion of various solar-powered irrigation projects in the region.
For CY 2020, four projects were completed such as Maligaya Pump Irrigation Project (PIP), Magbay PIP, Cabugao PIP and Isumbo PIP with project allocation of P3.8 million each. These projects were able to irrigation a total of 53 hectares benefitting 54 farmers in Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque and Palawan.
Meanwhile for CY 2021, NIA MIMAROPA completed six projects as follows: Adlingin PIP and Caguray RIS in Occidental Mindoro, Santol PIP and Cawit PIP in Marinduque, Pinaypayan PIP in Romblon and Iraan PIP in Palawan with a total amount of P27.7 million. Said projects will irrigate around 92.5 hectares of farmland in various municipalities and provinces which will benefit 123 farmers in MIMAROPA.
“Kami po ay labis-labis na nagpapasalamat sa pamunuan ng NIA.” Said Mr. Antonio Bergonia, president of Adlingin Farmers Irrigators Association. “Malaking tulong po sa amin. Dati po natutuyot ang aming lupain pero ngayon po ay hindi na dahil kami ay nabigyan ng solar pump.”
These solar pumps are very advantageous to the farmers as these are cost-efficient and very effective in areas like Occidental Mindoro which has very dry and parched soil during dry season.
