Aborlan Palawan - NIA MIMAROPA Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes and Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO) Division Manager Engr. Armando L. Flores handed over office furniture, fixtures, and equipment to the Tagbanua Indigenous Cultural Community (ICC) for their tribal halls in the Barangays of Sagpangan, Iraan, and Isaub on July 15, 2024.
The ceremony was made to honor its commitments to customary laws and the memorandum of agreement outlined in Article 4 Section 3.2 with the Tagbanua ICC and ensure compensation agreed upon under Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) for the construction of the Ibato-Iraan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) were fulfilled.
This was organized by Institutional Development Unit (IDU) Sr. Irrigators Development Officer (IDO) Glenda G. Buenavista with support from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Palawan Provincial Office headed by Atty. Jansen I. Jontila to uphold transparency, inclusivity, and mutual understanding in project development within Indigenous territories.
IPs expressed their appreciation for the commitment shown by the Department of Agriculture (DA), NIA, and the national government in fulfilling their obligations under FPIC agreements. Likewise, NIA expressed gratitude towards IPs for their cooperation and partnership in ensuring smooth project implementation that respects the rights and well-being of indigenous communities.
Key stakeholders and beneficiaries, including IP leaders, Barangay Captains, and members of the Ibato Iraan Farmers Irrigators Association were also present to witness this significant gathering.
