With the directives of Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes and under the supervision of Acting Operations Section Chief Engr. Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo, NIA MIMAROPA conducted a two-day Data Review and Field Validation of the Baco-Bucayao River Irrigation System (BBRIS) Farmland Geographic Information System (FGIS) from January 15-16, 2025. This initiative aimed to pilot the full implementation of FGIS within the agency. BBRIS, a major irrigation system in MIMAROPA located in Oriental Mindoro and overseen by the Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office Acting Division Manager Engr. Maria Victoria O. Malenab, serves 6,995.37 hectares of agricultural land in Calapan City and the municipality of Naujan.
With the full support of Engineering and Operations Division Manager Engr. Lowell L. Lozano, this review and field validation will enhance the effectiveness of FGIS in reporting farming activities, typhoon damage, and maintenance needs within the system. It will also serve as a valuable tool for efficient water delivery and distribution. By maximizing the potential of FGIS, the NIA will gain easier access to, management of, and analysis of crucial nformation, including the precise location of specific farmlands within the system. -Engr.
