DA and PhilRice Pledge Support for NIA's Second Dry Cropping Season with Seeds and Fertilizer Vouchers

Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - To ensure the smooth implementation of agricultural support programs in MIMAROPA, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA RFO), and PhilRice-Los Baños conducted a coordination meeting today at the NIA Regional Office. The meeting aimed to align their respective programs for the upcoming Second Dry Cropping Season.

The discussion focused on the prepositioning and timely distribution of farm inputs and assistance to farmer beneficiaries. Engr. Edgard Laurenz M. Geronimo, Chief of the Operations, Institutional, and Equipment Section, presented the program for the Second Dry Crop, highlighting that a total of 9,663.47 hectares will be irrigated and planted during this period.

Mr. Ronald De Gala, DA MIMAROPA RSBSA Focal Person and Rice Program Regional Lead, emphasized that farmers participating in the Second Dry Cropping Season will receive one bag of inbred certified seeds per hectare from DA-PhilRice, along with a Fertilizer Discount Voucher (FDV) worth Php 3,400.00 per hectare. To fast-track the prepositioning and distribution of farm inputs and assistance, the NIA will resubmit to DA MIMAROPA and PhilRice the updated programmed areas for the Second Dry Cropping Season, including the names of the farmers who will participate in the program.

Additionally, the meeting covered the DA accreditation of Irrigators Associations and the harmonization of data for the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) between DA and NIA to streamline farmer support services.

Among those present at the meeting were Oriental Mindoro PhilRice Provincial Coordinator Engr. Rovick Manay, DA MIMAROPA Rice Report Officer Charmie Machon, MIMAROPA RSBSA Communication Officer Elloisa Laredo, and key staff from the NIA Regional Office Operations Unit and Institutional Development Unit. The Irrigation Management Office participated virtually and committed to meeting the required targets and requirements within the set deadlines. -IDU Head Engr. Ave Jane V. Alvarado
