Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - The NIA Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO) organized a mass contract signing event at the NIA Training Center and Pula-Bansud River Irrigation System Conference Hall, Oriental Mindoro on February 26-27, 2024. Led by Acting Division Manager Maria Victoria O. Malaneb, the event garnered the attendance of eighty-three (83) Irrigators Associations (IAs) from the 1st and 2nd District of Oriental Mindoro, showcasing strong support from the farming community.
The amended contract focuses on increasing the subsidy rate for farmers through their Irrigators Associations (IAs) to Php 500.00 per hectare per cropping, a significant boost from the previous rate of Php 150.00 per hectare per cropping. This adjustment aims to aid farmers in addressing challenges such as inflation and rising cost of farm inputs and farm machineries.
This initiative reflects NIA's commitment under the leadership of Regional Manager Engr. Ronilio M. Cervantes to continuously support farmers and promote sustainable agriculture in the region. The increased subsidy is expected to alleviate the financial burden on farmers, contributing to enhanced agricultural productivity.
The activity showcased a presentation by Acting Supervising Grains Officer Rona Monica Buñag and Acting Branch Manager Dennis N. Mejico from the National Food Authority about the programs and services provided by the NFA, such as the Palay Procurement Program, and urged farmers to contribute their rice at the set price.
Moreover, the event served as a platform for discussing proposed projects for the CY 2025, led by Senior Engineer A Jinky M. Mañebo. Additionally, an open forum facilitated discussions between NIA and IA representatives.
Engineering and Operations Division Manager Lowell L. Lozano, Administrative and Finance Division Manager Kirsty Caroline M. Hernandez-Aceron, Institutional Development Unit Head Engr. Ave Jane V.
