NIA MIMAROPA Palawan IMO Conducts Pre-Membership Seminar for Narra Irrigators and Farmers Agricultural Services Cooperative (NIFASC)

Narra, Palawan - In line with the directive of NIA Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen to establish one cooperative per municipality, the NIA MIMAROPA, under the leadership of Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes, and Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO) led by Division Manager Armando L. Flores conducted a Pre-Membership Seminar for Narra Irrigators and Farmers Agricultural Services Cooperative (NIFASC) on September 27, 2023, at DPWH Convention Hall, Narra, Palawan.

This seminar is the first step to take before joining a cooperative. It was organized by the Institutional Development Unit (IDU) headed by Sr. Irrigators’ Development Officer (IDO) Glenda G. Buenavista, that gathered 81 officers from various Irrigators Associations (IAs) within the National Irrigation System (NIS) and Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in town aimed to support farmers journey towards economic reliance to increase their income and financial viability through cooperative ventures.

With the guidance of Resource speaker Ronnel C. Pidor, Cooperative Development Specialist II from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), participants learned the nature, principles, and characteristics of cooperative. The relevance of cooperativism, its values, and spirits were emphasized to better understand the cooperative operation. The goal is to help the farmer irrigators with an opportunity to sell their produce at the right time and right market which will ultimately raise their standard of living.

By fostering cooperation among farmers through NIFASC, the agency aims to create a stronger agricultural cooperative that aligns with NIA's commitment to contribute to the inclusive growth of the country and to improve the farmers' quality of life.
