Palawan IMO and 37 IAs Unite for Tree Planting Activity

Narra, Palawan - In a remarkable display of unity and commitment to environmental conservation, the Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO), headed by Division Manager Armando L. Flores, and 37 Irrigators Associations (IAs) of Malatgao Batang-Batang River Irrigation System (MBBRIS) joined the simultaneous tree planting activity on June 30, 2023 as part the NIA’s National Greening Program (NGP) with a theme “Tao, Agrikultura at Kalikasan para sa Progresibong Kaunlaran”.

This significant collaborative effort aims to commemorate NIA's 60th founding anniversary and to support Executive Order (EO) 23 Series of 2011 and EO 193 Series of 2016 to strengthen poverty reduction, food security in the community, sustainable management of natural resources, climate change mitigation, and nurturing of social and environmental awareness on the value of forests and watershed area at Malatgao RIS.

Present during the activity are the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Community Environment & Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Narra Representative Henry Katapang, Western Philippine University (WPU) Director for Extension Services and IA President of NIS Confederation Jibsam Andres, Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB), Officials of Barangay Dumangueña, Palawan IMO personnel and officials and representatives from 37 IAs of MBBRIS.  

Together, they planted 700 seedlings of fruit-bearing and forest tree species, covering 1.2 hectares in Sitio Buong, Barangay Dumangueña, Narra, Palawan.  These include langka, kamansi, guyabano, bangkal, narra, ipil, kudling, malamanga, and agoho provided by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Citinickel Mines and Development Corporation (CMDC). 

By actively participating in reforestation efforts, the Palawan IMO and farmers are taking tangible steps towards preserving forests and watersheds crucial for sustaining livelihoods. Moreover, the activity showcases the agency’s holistic approach toward achieving progress and prosperity for present and future generations.
