NIA turns over two irrigation projects to farmers

Oriental Mindoro - As part of its mandate, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) turned over the management of Sta. Maria Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) and Dike Apitong Communal Irrigation System (CIS) to the Samahang Magpapatubig ng Apitong at Sta. Maria Inc. Irrigators Association (IA) on May 5, 2017 at Brgy. Apitong, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

Sta. Maria CIP, amounting to Ph3.6M, will benefit 96 farmers of Brgy. Sta. Maria and will irrigate 120 hectares while Dike Apitong CIS, amounting to Ph11M, will benefit 83 farmers of Brgy. Apitong and will irrigate 80 hectares.

Engineering and Operations Division Manager Cesar M. Pobre together with MOMARO IMO Acting Division Manager Lowell L. Lozano and IA President Leony T. Masikap led the inauguration and turnover ceremony. Present also were Naujan Mayor Mark N. Marcos, Oriental Mindoro Board Member CA Jojo Perez, and Brgy. Chairmen Teodorico G. Gupit and Carmelo G. Gupit.

Engr. Lozano conveyed NIA’s appreciation towards the IA’s cooperation and participation in the completion and success of the said irrigation projects and that the IA should always do their part in its operation and maintenance.

“Alam ko po nakahanda ang ating Irrigators Association para sa isang responsibilidad.” Said Engr. Pobre in his message in behalf of Acting Regional Manager Ramon A. Bugacia. “Bahagi nito ay ang ating accountability sa mga posisyong ini-atang sa atin. Asikasuhin po natin ang mga pasilidad upang maayos ang daloy ng patubig.”

Before he ends his message, Engr. Pobre said that NIA will continue to provide technical assistance to the IA even in the absence of irrigation service fees.

Meanwhile, Mayor Marcos stated that the municipality of Naujan showcased a huge potential in terms of agricultural productivity with its good quality of rice. More land areas are being converted into rice land. He also conveyed their appreciation for the support of NIA to the farmers of Naujan.
