Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro - The recent impact of Typhoon Egay has resulted in the accumulation of an extensive amount of wood debris and logs in irrigation canals, posing a potential risk to agricultural production. As part of the National Irrigation Administration’s (NIA) commitment to ensure efficient water management to the Filipino farmers, the NIA - Occidental Mindoro Irrigation Management Office (OMIMO), under the directive of MIMAROPA Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes and with the supervision of Division Manager Raymundo L. Calusin, has launched a clearing and cleaning operation of old intake at Amnay River Irrigation System (RIS) located in the municipality of Sablayan.
The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure the continuous flow of water for agricultural production, avoid serious damage to infrastructure, and to minimize the risk of severe floods to protect the safety and well-being of the local community and the environment.
The NIA OMIMO operations field personnel led by Senior Water Resource Facility Technician (SWRFT) Roseche C. Casuncad, together with Gatekeeper of AMNAY RIS Edgar F. Salvador Jr., Driver Mechanic Leo Natividad and IA member of Cadanguehan worked diligently to complete the cleaning operation.
NIA OMIMO will remain attentive in monitoring the situation and stands ready to respond to any further challenges that may arise in the aftermath of Typhoon Egay.
