The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) Irrigation Management Office (IMO) proudly announces the inauguration of its new building and ten (10) irrigation systems in Oriental Mindoro. The occasion took place on February 1, 2024, at the NIA MIMAROPA Compound, Bayanan II, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
The highlight of the event is the unveiling and blessing of the new NIA MOMARO IMO Building, a remarkable 736-square-meter, two-storey structure worth Php 22 Million. After years of sharing office space with the NIA MIMAROPA Regional Office, this new building will serve as the permanent home for the NIA MOMARO IMO along with the Operations and Maintenance Personnel of the Baco-Bucayao River Irrigation System.
The event was under the dynamic leadership of NIA Acting Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen, hand in hand with NIA MIMAROPA Acting Regional Manager Ronilio M. Cervantes. The ceremony was also graced with the presence of the Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr., as the guest of honor and speaker.
The construction of the building commenced in October 2022 under the guidance of MOMARO IMO Division Manager Gerardo R. Perez with a total project cost of Php 22,000,000.00. The modern facility will house various sections including the Office of Irrigation Manager, Engineering Section, Operation and Maintenance Section, Conference Halls, Administrative and Finance Section, Commission on Audit, and Public Information and Assistance Desk. This new infrastructure aims to provide a more conducive and spacious workplace for NIA MOMARO IMO personnel, ensuring efficient and reliable irrigation services to stakeholders in Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
Agriculture Undersecretary Jerome V. Oliveros, Hon. Edwin L. Gardiola, Oriental Mindoro Provincial Administrator Hubbert Christopher A. Dolor, 2nd District Congressman Alfonso V. Umali, Jr., City of Calapan Mayor Marilou F. Morillo, Committee on Appropriations Chief of Staff Jake Pineda and DA MIMAROPA Regional Executive Director Atty. Christopher Bañas attended the event.
Furthermore, the event marks the commencement of ten different irrigation projects operating within the National Irrigation System (NIS) and Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in Calapan City, Naujan, Gloria, Pola and Socorro Oriental Mindoro. These projects aim at enhancing irrigation infrastructure in the province to ensure a sustainable water supply for agricultural purposes.
The inauguration ceremony includes the following sub-systems: Mahabang Parang Solar Pump Irrigation System, Baco-Bucayao River Irrigation System (Repair of Irrigation System and Improvement of Service Road), Mag-asawang Tubig RIS, Pula RIS, Subaan Communal Irrigation System (CIS), Carumaguit CIS, San Andres CIS, Malubay SPIS (Solar Pump Irrigation System), and Lucio Laurel Small Irrigation System (SIS).
These initiatives have a total service area of 5,568.10 hectares, benefiting 1,997 farmers, with a total allocation of Php 219,097,000.00.
The NIA MOMARO IMO is delighted to celebrate this milestone, which is a testament to the agency's commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and supporting the livelihoods of farmers in Oriental Mindoro. The inauguration ceremony signifies the beginning of a new chapter for the #BagongPilipinas in the provision of irrigation services in the region.
