NIA MIMAROPA conducts four-day cross-site visit in Ilocos Region

NIA MIMAROPA conducted a four-day cross-site visit (Study Tour) in Ilocos Region to gather ideas for the implementation of the Caguray River Irrigation System (RIS) and Baco-Bucayao RIS Irrigation Water Resources Management Plan (IWRMP).

The participants visited several locations, including Dumuloc Nursery 2, DUMULOC SRIP, the Model Farm of Dumuloc RIS, and the CS First Green Bamboo plantation.

The activity was inaugurated by NIA MIMAROPA MOMARO IMO Division Manager Engr. Gerardo R. Perez, along with the Officer-In-Charge of Baco-Bucayao RIS, Engr. Ma. Victoria O. Malenab, Regional Office Section Chief of Planning, Design and Construction Section, Engr. Suzanne J. San Juan, and the watershed focal persons from Regional Office, Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon Irrigation Management Office (IMO), and Occidental Mindoro IMO.

The activity commenced with a formal courtesy call made by the top management of NIA Region I, led by EOD Manager Engr. Leonila G. Fernandez, AFD Manager Vanessa C. Maulic, and Pangasinan IMO Division Manager Engr. John N. Molano. They were accompanied by the knowledgeable watershed focal persons and Project-in-Charge, who diligently served as guides for the MIMAROPA group throughout the entire event.

They also took part in soft broom (Tambo) making and Vegetation Enhancement at the Model Farm of Dumuloc RIS, collaborating with the Sitio Mapita Tribe in support of RPWRSIS.

The cross-site visit was a valuable learning experience for the NIA MIMAROPA team. The participants were able to gain insights into the best practices and innovative approaches being implemented in Region 1, which they can apply to the implementation of the Caguray RIS and Baco-Bucayao RIS IWRMPs. This exchange of knowledge and experiences will contribute to the development of more sustainable and resilient irrigation systems in the MIMAROPA region. –EA Rhea Flores
