The effects of climate change are very evident within the country. As an agency that contributes in fighting such phenomenon, NIA continues to conduct its Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity all over the Philippines.
NIA MIMAROPA actively participated in the said endeavor headed by Regional Manager William P. Ragodon. The tree planting, themed “Greening the Philippines the NIA Way”, was conducted in the three (3) provinces of the region last June 14, 2019.
The regional office joined the Mindoro Oriental-Marinduque-Romblon (MOMARO) IMO as they planted 1,500 narra and mahogany trees at the 2-hectare watershed in Brgy. San Carlos, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. The group was assisted by Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), representative from Naujan Municipal Police, Oryza Sativa Irrigators Association and officials of Brgy. San Carlos.
Meanwhile, Palawan IMO Division Manager Conrado V. Cardenas Jr. led his staff and the IAs in planting 650 seedlings of fruit trees such as guyabano, cashew, santol and jackfruit that surrounds Pamalpalen Communal Irrigation System (CIS), Narra, Palawan.
Moreover, Occidental Mindoro IMO Acting Division Manager Lowell L. Lozano accompanied his staff and Matabiaga IAs in planting 600 seedlings of Mahogany, Guyabano, Coffee Plant and Narra at a 1.3-hectare area in Inayan Creek-Lumintao River, Magsikap, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro.
Overall, NIA MIMAROPA planted 2,750 seedlings of various hardwood and fruit-bearing trees. The total area covered was about 4.05 hectares.
