Oriental Mindoro - With the current public health emergency in the country, NIA MIMAROPA ensures to provide irrigation services to secure food sufficiency particularly in the region as irrigation is a vital input in agriculture and food production.
Headed by NIA MIMAROPA Regional Manager William P. Ragodon, the agency guarantees that all issuances and policies including that of Department of Health (DOH), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and provincial/municipal government will be adhered during various operation and maintenance (O&M) activities in the national and communal irrigation systems. There are many O&M activities included, but not limited to, canal clearing and oiling of gates/lifting mechanism.
NIA MIMAROPA also implemented early release of irrigation water to support early farming activities of farmers like land preparation and land soaking.
To date, NIA MIMAROPA has irrigated about 22,737.68 hectares under the national irrigation systems and 35,244.20 hectares under the communal irrigation systems that served various municipalities within the region. With adequate irrigation water provided to farmers, they were able to harvest their crops which will secure food sufficiency for the people.
Aside from these, as green light was given to all regions, construction activities have also resumed for CY 2019 irrigation projects and Notices to Proceed were given for CY 2020 projects.
